Bah

It was gaming weekend this weekend, which was fun as always. However, I was sick the whole time. Still am, a little. So this will be a short post.

Being sick sucks.

Woah, D term

Man, I almost started skimping on my New Years' resolution, but here I am blogging again.

My classes for this term finally include a CS class! I didn't realize how much I missed computer science until I got back to it. Fun times, all around.

In other news, trivia has been sent up a level. I've been working on getting WPeye, a website that gives a students' perspective on WPI, set up by a few friends. Although I am doing stuff for Admissions, WPeye is on my own time, so we can be honest there.

URL for that is http://www.wpi.net/

Trivia has been moved to the forum section of WPIeye. That can be found at http://www.wpeye.net/forums

Also, I think D term is gonna be completely awesome. I'm also rather psyched for Joe's birthday party. Have I mentioned Joe yet? Anyway, my best friend's birthday is on the second of April, and it will be awesome.

Misfire

So that whole trivia thing didn't work out quite right, so I'm gonna be moving it to a website with a name that's easier to remember.

Also, it's snowing! Yay! Nothing like being all warm inside an apartment surrounded by snow. Huzzah for third floor apartments, and heat going up! Finals week is next week-that always seems to arrive too quickly. Oh well, I feel plenty prepared for it, except for maybe macroeconomics...but that will probably be fine...

Awesomeness!

So a whole bunch of awesome stuff just clicked, and in summary, I get to give out awesome prizes.

I managed to convince admissions that I could give a set of trivia puzzles out to prospective WPI students, every few days or so. This will be going on for a while (until I run out ideas, probably), so if you end up seeing this later on don't lose heart! So I'm going to be giving out lots of little prizes, but I'm going to be giving out an iPod Shuffle to the grand winner. Just like those annoying banner ads at the top of EVERY website, only I'm telling the truth!

To enter submissions, email me at ash@wpi.edu with "Trivia" somewhere in the subject line. I'm not positive on how I'm going to score things, but all correct answers will gain points, and the first correct answer will be worth slightly more points.

The first question: What residence hall did my grandfather live in? This hall also used to hold the student center in its basement.

Good luck!

Tired and winded

I am very tired today--which confuses me, since I got 8 hours of sleep last night. Maybe it's related to the fact that I picked up sprinting last night. In 10 degree weather. Anyway, my lungs are now fun and dry, so i'm coughing. I'll go drink some tea or something, should fix that right up.

Academic Advising day on Thursday, and tomorrow is Wednesday, which mean that I have only one class in two days. Sometimes things pay off awesome-like. Wednesdays are sometimes really nice for WPI students, 'cause Wednesday schedules are usually rather different from the other days. I know a few kids with 4 hour labs, but usually people don't have more than an hour of lab.

The Superbowl!

It happened! It was nuts! The Pats lost! People were outraged!!!
I don't really care. The episode of House afterwards was awesome. This whole weekend was a little nuts for me, though; it was kind of hard to get myself time to do homework. I somehow managed, though.

That said, I got that test back from Probability. I did better than the greater majority of the class, despite never using my book or notes. Guess I lucked out back in high school, but it was all fairly simplistic anyway. One thing that annoys me is that I lost two points for one of my arguments, even though that 'argument' was actually just notes for myself, and that if I had not written anything down I would have recieved full credit. I'll take that up with the TA on Wednesday's conference session.

Probability

I don't know if my favorite or least favorite course is Probability. We had a test on Thursday--a mid-term, no less--and I didn't study a moment. This is due to the fact that after half a semester, we haven't done a single thing that I haven't known from high school. To be fair, I took all the harder math classes in high school, but still, some of this stuff is totally asinine. The only reason I'm taking this course is that it's required for the CS major. While it's nice to have an easy class every day, it's kind of annoying to waste my time and tuition on such a useless course.

Polyphasic sleep

So while I was gone from blogging, I was attempting polyphasic sleep. I successfully did this for about a week, and then decided it just didn't fit into my schedule to be sleeping every 4 hours, even for a short amount of time. From what I read online, however, I got past the worst days, so I feel confident that I could have pulled this off. The time I slept for more than a small nap time, I woke up, took a long shower, and then turned the alarm for 6 hours later and went to sleep. I could have been awake, but I chose to sleep, so it was all voluntary.

Other than that, I just got back from a friend's birthday party. Now I'm hella tired--I don't think my body's completely back to monophasic sleeping

Sleep

I wasn't satisfied with sleep being the way it was, so I'm starting more drastic measures. More to come.

It's been a few days and I've managed to get to sleep between 2 and 5 pm every night. Worcester is a nice city to walk around at 3am, so I'm enjoying myself. I've also been slamming through seasons of The Shield, which I highly recommend to anyone who can handle a little television violence. The story of The Shield becomes amazingly complicated halfway through the first episode, before all the characters are even introduced. Everything stays deliciously messy, and even though most loose ends are tied up at season's end, the season premiers blast everything back out again. Moral of the story is, watch The Shield.

So it turns out blogging isn't enough to randomly motivate me, so I'm going to be messing around with my sleep schedule. I will be attempting to sleep from 4pm-12am, although due to scheduling I might have to move that around quite a bit. I just woke up after sleeping at 4, I couldn't make it very long. I'll probably get pretty tired well before 4, but staying up isn't as hard as waking up, and with 8 hours of sleep I'll be able to do that fine as well.

Classes day 2

I'm getting into the swing of classes, which mean I'll remember to make a blog post! All of my classes are very easy, as I realized halfway through my probability course. The professor got distracted and ended up telling the class that "even numbers are divisible by two," and then repeating himself during a 2000-level math course. On top of that, I get done with classes by 11am on three different weekdays, which is awesome.

Happy New Year!

It's 2008, and I'm finally HOME again. Back in my Apartment in Worcester, time to get some work done. Gotta apply for an internship, figure out some other business-related whatnot, and get things squared away for the next term.

My New Years' resolution is to update this blog more often. I'm not generally a blogging type of person, but I like doing things spur-of-the-moment, so I'm gonna try sticking with this.

The best thing I got for Christmas was a webcam...it's been far too long without one, and the one I have is pretty good! My only problem is that my Vista laptop keeps forgetting it has the drivers installed, kinda like how my Vista laptop keeps forgetting I have passwords saved, kind of like how my Vista laptop doesn't save Trillian message logs
like I tell it to. Oh well.
